Visit planning call
Thirty minutes with a named patient guide, who works out which location you need and walks you through the paperwork before the day.
Anything urgent, or anyone who wants to know what a symptom means. The guide passes those questions to your clinician or to 911 the same minute.
This is help booking a hospital visit, and the part of our work that costs nothing. You tell the guide what the appointment letter says. The guide checks which building, which entrance and which desk, whether a referral form has to arrive first, and where to park. Most people call about parking. It is a fair question and it takes about a minute to answer.
Afterwards you get a two-page letter with directions and a checklist. Bring your insurance card, a list of what you take each morning, and the name of whoever drives you home. The same guide rings you the day before to check nothing has moved.

Hospital stay preparation class
Ninety minutes on what to pack, how the admission desk works and who on the ward to ask for what.
Anyone whose admission date is not yet set. We cannot seat you until it is. Call a guide instead and we will hold a place for the next class after your date comes through.
The hospital stay preparation class is for a person with a scheduled admission and one companion, usually the one who will do the driving and the visiting. The instructor unpacks a real overnight bag on the table, item by item, and explains why each thing is there and what gets left at home.
The second half covers the admission desk: which forms, which ID, what the wristband is for, and how to find out visiting hours without ringing the ward. Nobody is asked about their own stay. Questions about your procedure go on a card for your clinician.

New parents class
Four weekday evenings, two hours each, for six couples expecting a baby or bringing one home.
Questions about a pregnancy or a baby's health. Those belong with your own clinician. The class is practical handling and logistics, nothing more.
This new parents class in Austin caps at six couples, so the room holds twelve adults and one instructor. Each couple gets a weighted infant training doll for the four evenings: holding, changing, bathing on a plastic tub, and settling it down to sleep on its back.
Evening three is the car seat. Bring your own if you have bought it. The instructor fits it with you to a spare vehicle seat in the room, and you practice the harness until both of you can do it. Evening four covers the hospital's visiting rules and what to pack for the day you go in.
| Evening | Time | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | 18:30 to 20:30 | Holding and changing |
| Tuesday | 18:30 to 20:30 | Bathing and sleep position |
| Wednesday | 18:30 to 20:30 | Car-seat fitting |
| Thursday | 18:30 to 20:30 | Visiting rules and the bag |

- First
- Nothing formal. Six couples is a small room, so book as soon as you know your dates
- Bring
- Your car seat, still in its box is fine
$140Per couple for all four evenings. Indicative, confirmed when we book you.
Family caregiver skills course
Three Saturday mornings on an adjustable training bed, for the person who looks after someone at home.
Deciding what care someone needs. That is a conversation with their clinician. We teach the handling and the routine once the plan exists.
The family caregiver skills course is the one guides get asked about most. It is hands-on caregiver training in Texas for spouses, grown children and neighbors. Morning one is safe positioning on the bed with a draw sheet and pillows, and how to protect your own back while you do it. Morning two is setting up a room at home: bed height, clear floor, where the lamp and the water go.
Morning three is the written daily schedule. You leave with a filled-in template that anyone else who helps can pick up and follow. Pairs rotate on the bed so you practice both sides.
| Session | Time | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday 1 | 08:45 to 11:00 | Positioning on the bed |
| Saturday 2 | 08:45 to 11:00 | Setting up a room at home |
| Saturday 3 | 08:45 to 11:00 | The written daily schedule |
- Seats
- 12, working in pairs
- First
- Tell the guide if lifting or kneeling is hard for you; we arrange the bed height beforehand
- Wear
- Flat shoes and clothes you can bend in
$120Per person for all three sessions. Indicative, confirmed when we book you.
CPR and first aid course
Four hours on adult and infant manikins, with a Northwell completion letter at the end.
Anyone whose employer requires a third-party certification card. Our completion letter is not one. Check with your workplace before you book.
Our CPR and first aid course in Austin spends most of its four hours on the floor. Every participant gets their own adult manikin on a mat and shares an infant manikin with one neighbour, so the infant CPR part of the class is as much practice as the adult part. Hand position, depth, rhythm, and when to stop and call 911.
The last hour is first aid: choking in adults and infants, bleeding, burns, and what to put in a kit at home. Kneeling is involved. If that is hard, tell the guide and we will set up a raised table.
| Day | Time | Seats |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday, twice a month | 12:30 to 16:30 | 12 |
| Wednesday, once a month | 17:00 to 21:00 | 12 |
- You receive
- A Northwell completion letter, not a third-party certification
- First
- Nothing required. Ask the guide before booking anyone under 18
- Wear
- Something you can kneel in
$85Per person. Indicative, confirmed when we book you.
Steady movement class, 60+
A weekly 60-minute exercise class for seniors in Austin: supervised chair and standing movement, at an even pace.
Anyone without a signed clearance from their physician. The class needs that note before the first session, and we cannot seat you without it.
This is instruction in a routine, not an assessment. The instructor leads a set sequence: seated warm-up, arm and leg movements from the chair, then a short standing section with one hand on the chair back. Anyone can stay seated for the whole hour. Nobody is timed or measured.
The clearance form is on the letter we send when you book. Your physician signs it, you bring it or email it, and the guide files it. If your physician later changes what the note says, tell the guide before the next class.
| Day | Time | Seats |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | 10:00 to 11:00 | 12 |
| Friday | 10:00 to 11:00 | 12 |
- First
- A signed physician clearance, received before session one
- Who
- Adults aged 60 and over
- Bring
- Water, flat shoes, and glasses if you use them for reading
$15Per class, or $110 for a block of 8. Indicative, confirmed when we book you.
Questions guides hear every week
Booking, cancelling and the fine print
How do I pay for a class?
Not on this site. A guide confirms the seat, the date and the fee by phone or email, and tells you how to pay. The fees above are indicative until that confirmation.
What if you cancel a class?
You get a seat in the next one or your fee back, your choice. The seat and refund guarantee in the terms sets out exactly how.
Can I bring someone who is not booked?
Only in the hospital stay preparation class, where one companion is part of the booking. Everywhere else the twelve-seat ceiling is firm, including for family.
Will the instructor tell me if a class is safe for me?
No. Instructors teach the steps; they do not judge anyone's health. If you are unsure, ask your own doctor before you book. For the movement class, the physician clearance is how that question gets answered.
Not sure which one
A guide will tell you in one call.
